As a boy growing up in southern California, I loved to draw and paint--but my real obsession was nature. I was particularly entranced by the desert, and this fascination continued into adulthood, eventually leading me to Tucson's Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, where I served as Director of Design & Planning. However, a rekindled interest in art began consuming more and more of my time and energy, and in March 2007 I requested a sabbatical from the museum in order to paint full-time. Most of my work depicts natural or rural landscapes of the western United States, with special emphasis on the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts.
Education: In addition to plein air workshops from artists Matt Smith, Ray Roberts, and Phil Starke, I have completed various courses in sculpting, drawing, and painting from San Bernardino Community College, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah. In 1990 I received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis, and am registered as a Landscape Architect in the State of Arizona.
My work has appeared in Southwest Art Magazine ("Artists to Watch" column) February 2005, and Western Art Collector April 2008 (click here to download article).
